The monastery garden in Neuzelle is the only baroque garden in Brandenburg and is one of the most important gardens in Germany. The view over the baroque garden and the Oder lowlands from the monastery is one of the most beautiful views in the state of Brandenburg.

The five-hectare park was restored according to the original plans from the monastery atlas from 1758. Baroque path axes, water features and beautiful old trees can be admired, as can the terraces, which elevate the natural hillside location into a garden artistic highlight.

Especially in summer, the baroque garden itself becomes a work of art and comes to life again. Together with the Garden Culture Working Group, the Neuzelle Monastery cordially invites you to a diverse program of events in the garden itself.

History of the Baroque Garden Neuzelle

It is thanks to Henry the Illustrious, Margrave of Meißen and the Ostmark that the Neuzelle monastery was built on the steep slope of the Oder lowlands. In 1268 he founded a monastery for the Cistercian monks for the well-being of his deceased wife. Today the Neuzelle Monastery in the resort town of Neuzelle is one of the few completely preserved examples of monastic architecture.

In the 18th century, the monastery gardens were redesigned in "French taste" and are now considered the only baroque park in Brandenburg whose basic structures were not changed in later times. In recent years, parts of the historic garden monument have been largely restored by the Stift Neuzelle Foundation according to plans from 1758 and impress with their symmetries, visual axes and a terrace that allows a wide view over the baroque gardens and the Oder valley. In 2008, the Neuzelle monastery garden was chosen by the German Tourism Center as one of the 53 most important gardens in Germany.

The Orangery

The center of the gardens is the orangery, where the orange trees and other southern plants from the monastery garden overwinter from October to May and which is used as a café in the summer months for events and weddings. Visitors can be enchanted by the charm of the centuries-old monastery complex and experience a unique monastic garden culture.

In the summer months, guests with limited mobility can access the baroque garden via the south entrance.
